Inducements of Another Night

Lately, when everyone is asleep, tired from desk work and large lunches, resting; I gather my thoughts with wine and decide to start creating words that eventually turn elusive throw-away loops or a lucky line to spin or horde on scrap paper that isn't always forgotten and turns up two months later. The idea is usually scribed on the flip-side of a receipt, reminding me to leave a smaller tip.
The reason I forget of all the flooded inducements of a grand goal or idea from last week, or forget about a sleepless night that wasn't as reflective as this one, is to know I can wheel back to another beginning of the end of some other night.

Tumbling through Texas in a twelve foot truck at three in the morning after driving for ten hours or so, it's only human to convince yourself that sunshine would make this part of the trip less depressing. Depressing isn't the word. Gloomy. Silent. Somber.
A sea of abandoned factories and miles of sand, uninhabited after some nuclear fall out and a hundred red, blinking lights every 50 miles or so: this was the Texas I can say I experienced. This haunting abyss of total darkness, save our head lights and the speeding truckers, was almost halfway to Mendocino.
